A focused classic platform
How the Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU works
The Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU takes over selected engine management duties through a wired installation and a calibrated engine map. Its published specification covers naturally aspirated and forced-induction engines, with load sensing by throttle position or manifold pressure. It supports several injection patterns and distributor or multi-coil ignition arrangements, subject to trigger and wiring compatibility.
This is a standalone engine control project, so the engine, trigger pattern, injector impedance, coils and other retained vehicle systems must be reviewed together. The model name alone cannot establish a plug-and-play fit. It is a practical option for a workshop with the right legacy software and tuning expertise; the exact hardware version and condition matter as much as the nominal specifications.

Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 specifications
The figures below come from Haltech’s Platinum Sprint 500 specification sheet. They describe the model, while the delivered controller revision and package are checked separately. The four injector outputs are specified for high-impedance injectors above 8 Ω.
| Item | Published Sprint 500 specification | What to verify for your build |
|---|---|---|
| Engine suitability | 1–8 cylinder; naturally aspirated or forced induction | Firing arrangement, trigger pattern and output strategy |
| Fuel control | Four high-impedance injector outputs; sequential, semi-sequential, batch or multi-point strategies listed | Injector resistance and chosen injection mode |
| Ignition | Four ignition outputs; distributor or multi-coil systems | Coil/igniter type and dwell configuration |
| Maps and load | User-definable 16 × 16 mapping; throttle position or MAP load | Sensor calibration and tuning plan |
| MAP sensor | Selectable internal sensor rated to 150 kPa; external MAP option | Required manifold pressure range and sensor |
| Communication | USB and CAN communication ports | Correct cable, software and connected devices |
| Power and size | 8.6–16.5 V DC; ECU body 134 × 64 × 28 mm, excluding MAP nipple extension | Vehicle power supply and mounting clearance |
For the Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU, a 1–8 cylinder suitability statement does not mean eight independent injector or ignition outputs. Output assignment depends on the engine configuration.
Build the control plan
Sprint 500 fuel, ignition and sensor planning
The Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU can be tuned with volumetric-efficiency or injection-time approaches and has fuel and ignition correction tables. MAP or TPS load, air and coolant temperature, road speed, oxygen feedback and trigger signals are among the published inputs or functions. A usable result depends on sound wiring, sensor calibration and professional mapping rather than an ECU swap alone.
Injector strategy
Record the injector resistance and number of cylinders, then choose a supported sequential, semi-sequential or batch arrangement within the four-output hardware limit.
Trigger and coil setup
Identify crank and cam signals, trigger pattern, igniter type and dwell method. Incorrect ignition configuration can damage components.
Pressure and auxiliary use
Check the internal MAP range for the intended boost level or specify a suitable external sensor. Two generic outputs may be configured for supported auxiliary functions.

What arrives in the box?
Platinum Sprint 500 wiring, controller and software
Haltech’s historic flying-loom kit listing includes the Sprint 500 ECU, flying loom, USB cable, software CD, manual, quick start guide and sticker. A current supplier listing or a used unit may contain a different set of items. We quote from the actual available inventory, with photos of the controller label, connector, loom and accessories where possible.
For the Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU, a bare controller, a loom-only item and a complete kit are different purchase scopes. If a replacement harness is needed, send the ECU part number and photographs of both the controller socket and existing connector. We will check whether a matching loom can be supplied separately.

Five details to send before an S500 quote
These details let us identify the correct controller and wiring scope before discussing price or delivery.
- Vehicle and engine: model, year, engine code and cylinder count.
- Trigger and ignition: crank/cam sensors, coil or distributor arrangement and igniter type.
- Fuel and pressure: injector resistance, injector count, naturally aspirated or boosted target and MAP sensor range.
- Existing parts: ECU part number, case and connector photographs, loom and USB cable status.
- Supply scope: controller only, harness only or a verified package, plus quantity and destination.
Model selection
Sprint 500 and Platinum Sport 1000 are distinct ECUs
If your project also considers the Haltech Platinum Sport 1000, request a separate model review. The names identify different hardware families with different input/output resources and harnesses. Do not order a Sport 1000 loom for a Sprint 500 based on appearance alone. A dedicated Sport 1000 product page will follow after its own supplier details are verified.
For a recent build, also tell us whether you prefer a currently supported ECU platform. The Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU is listed by Haltech among discontinued products, so software environment, service and replacement options should be checked before committing to an installation.
Buyer questions
Before ordering a Platinum Sprint 500
Is the Sprint 500 a piggyback ECU?
No. It is a wire-in standalone engine management ECU. The wiring and calibration plan determine which engine functions it controls and how any original vehicle systems are retained.
Can the Sprint 500 run an eight-cylinder engine?
Haltech lists 1–8 cylinder suitability, but the controller has four injector outputs and four ignition outputs. An eight-cylinder application needs a suitable grouped injection and ignition strategy, confirmed against the engine and trigger arrangement.
Is a wiring harness included?
That depends on the offered unit. Historic factory flying-loom kits included a loom, but controller-only and separate harness supply are possible. Ask for the exact items in the current quote.
Can I use low-impedance injectors?
The published four injector outputs are specified for high-impedance injectors above 8 Ω. Send your injector specification for review before purchasing.
Is this model still current?
Haltech lists the Platinum Sprint 500 in its discontinued products. Confirm the actual hardware condition, compatible software and support route for your project.
