Engine management / wire-in control
Standalone ECU Systems
A standalone ECU takes responsibility for the engine functions assigned to it through a purpose-built wiring and calibration plan. Explore LikedLinking’s standalone ECU options from LINK, MaxxECU and Haltech, then choose the controller by the engine’s actual fuel, ignition, trigger and auxiliary requirements.
What changes
When is a standalone ECU the right approach?
A standalone ECU can manage fuel and ignition directly for a compatible build. It is considered when a project needs control authority beyond the intended piggyback strategy, such as a dedicated engine harness, different trigger and ignition arrangement, or additional tunable functions. Integration with instruments, immobilizers, emissions equipment and other original modules must be planned for each vehicle.
“Standalone” does not mean automatic fitment. Wiring, sensor signals, actuator loads and professional calibration determine whether the selected engine management system will work as intended. If the factory ECU must remain in control, review the Universal Piggyback ECU option as a separate approach.
Representative products
Standalone ECU models to explore
These are the representative models currently covered by separate LikedLinking pages. Each listing explains its own hardware and supply conditions; the cards below do not imply that controllers and wiring are sold as identical kits.
Featured / current project platform
LINK Fury X Standalone ECU
For projects needing a configurable G4X wire-in ECU and a harness plan matched to the build. The Fury X page covers controller selection, injector and ignition resources, A/B loom planning and the information needed for a quote. Check the exact hardware generation and included connectors before ordering.

Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 ECU
A legacy Platinum Series standalone controller with up to four injector outputs and four ignition outputs. Suitable engine layouts and grouped firing strategies need review; confirm condition, wiring, software access and available accessories.

Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 ECU
A compact legacy Platinum Series controller for a build that fits its available input and output resources. The Sprint 500 has its own specification and must not be treated as a Sport 1000 with a smaller case.

MaxxECU MINI Standalone ECU
A compact standalone ECU option. Review the controller, engine outputs and available wiring against the exact project before ordering.

LINK XtremeX Standalone ECU
Explore an eight-channel G4X XtremeX reference platform and connector options. Verify the actual supplied unit, generation and A/B wiring separately.
A practical selection path
How we narrow down a standalone ECU
Define the engine and trigger
Share model, year, engine code, cylinders or rotors, crank and cam signals, intake type and planned RPM range.
Count the real outputs
List injectors, coils, fuel pumps, idle hardware, boost solenoid, fans, VVT and any additional devices. A cylinder count by itself does not prove enough independent channels.
Specify wiring and support
Choose a suitable loom or connector package. Confirm sensors, communication cable, software, existing vehicle modules and the tuner who will commission the engine.

Compare five standalone ECU pages
| Model | Best starting point | Important supply check |
|---|---|---|
| LINK Fury X | G4X wire-in build where a current platform and tailored wiring plan are needed | Exact ECU generation, A/B looms or connector kits, sensors and calibration scope |
| Haltech Sport 1000 | Project suited to this legacy controller’s four injector and four ignition outputs | Unit condition, compatible firing strategy, loom and legacy software access |
| Haltech Sprint 500 | Smaller build that fits its specific output and application limits | Controller version, harness, trigger compatibility and included accessories |
| MaxxECU MINI | Compact standalone ECU project with controller and harness options reviewed together | Exact unit, wiring, engine outputs and included accessories |
| LINK XtremeX | Up to eight-cylinder G4X XtremeX reference installation with A/B wiring planning | Physical controller identity, generation, connector parts and calibration scope |
LINK Fury X, MaxxECU MINI, LINK XtremeX, Haltech Sport 1000 and Haltech Sprint 500 are different products. Do not transfer an output count, wiring diagram, firmware instruction or accessory list from one model to another.
Supply format
Controller, harness and a workable installation plan
LikedLinking can discuss a standalone ECU as a controller-only enquiry or a configured package, depending on the particular unit and available wiring. For a useful quote, tell us whether you need a flying-lead harness, connectors and pins, sensors, communication accessories, or support for a vehicle-specific wiring layout.
Availability of legacy Haltech units is confirmed per enquiry. Product photographs on this category page help identify the model, but do not define what is included in an individual order. Exact part number, hardware revision, condition, accessories and after-sales terms should appear in the quotation.
Buyer questions
Standalone ECU FAQ
Does a standalone ECU fit every vehicle?
No. Engine trigger, injector and ignition hardware, sensor signals, wiring and retained factory systems must be checked. A universal wire-in controller still needs vehicle-specific engineering.
What is the difference between a standalone ECU and a piggyback ECU?
A standalone ECU directly performs the engine-control functions assigned to it. A piggyback ECU generally works with the factory ECU and modifies selected signals or commands. The right architecture depends on the build and the original systems that must remain operational.
Can I buy the wiring harness separately?
Ask us with the exact ECU model, connector revision and intended length. Harness or connector availability is quoted for the confirmed model; a loom shown beside another ECU is not automatically compatible.
Are the Haltech Sport 1000 and Sprint 500 current models?
They are legacy/discontinued Platinum Series models. Review the exact supplied unit, documentation, cable and software needs before ordering.
Does an ECU automatically increase engine power?
No. Results depend on the engine hardware, suitable control strategy, installation and professional calibration. We do not promise a fixed power gain from the controller alone.
